Special Events

Each year St. Paul’s offers annual programs that our church family enjoys.  We encourage you to join us!  Please view the monthly newsletter for specific details and other programs.

Women's Retreat

A retreat is offered for the women of the parish in the late winter or early spring. This retreat is a time of fellowship, reflection, worship and inspiration.

Season of Lent

On Shrove Tuesday (the night before Ash Wednesday), parish members gather to anticipate the season of Lent.  We invite all to participate in Stations of the Cross and then enjoy a pancake dinner provided by the men of the church.  The following Tuesdays of Lent, a soup and salad dinner is provided by groups within the parish.  After dinner, Fr. Jim Lively leads a Lenten series for adults and there is a program for children.

Easter Carnival

SPY members host an Easter Carnival on the Saturday prior to Palm Sunday, for all children of the community.  SPY members set up games, the Easter Bunny makes a visit, plus there's a massive hunt!

Mother's Day Tea

We celebrate all the women of St. Paul's who are mothers, have mothers, or both! Following the 10am service on Mother's Day, SPY members set up a special reception in the Parish Hall and have cards for all women of the parish.

Father's Day Ice Cream Social

Put on by SPY, we celebrate the men of St. Paul's.  The celebration takes place in the courtyard, and the youth scoop out ice cream and sherbet plus all of the toppings you could want after the 10am service on Father's Day.

Fall Kick-Off

To kick off the fall program season, the parish enjoys a potluck picnic the Sunday after Labor Day. A fun way to reconnect after the summer!

Blessing of the Animals

We bless the animals of all of our households.  Bring your pet for a special blessing from Fr. Jim or Deacon David!

Halloween Party

Each October SPY hosts a Halloween Carnival full of games and treats for all children of the parish, St. Anne’s, and the surrounding community.  Children and parents are encouraged to dress up in costumes.  Entrance to the party is a canned good which is donated to the Salem Food Pantry.  This carnival is held on the same Saturday as downtown Salem's Pumpkinfest.

Christmas Tree Trimming & Dinner

Each year before the Salem Christmas Parade, members of the parish come together to decorate the Parish Hall Christmas tree.  This, followed by a chili supper, is a fun and continued tradition for members of all ages.  Afterwards, we gather together in the Post House and on Main Street to watch the parade together.

Christmas Pageant/Outdoor Live Nativity

Held on the last two Sunday nights before Christmas (nativity then pageant), the pageant and live nativity are long standing traditions put on by the youth and children of the church.  The pageant is held in place of the service and the live nativity is held in the tower entrance and steps so that all who pass by may witness.
